How Flick: What to Watch Next recommendations work

A useful recommendation needs to fit both your evening and the services you have. Here is what shapes the deck, which controls you can change, and where the information comes from.

Start with your services and region

Choose your streaming services in You → Services. The discovery deck uses those choices to look for subscription titles in your region. Availability information comes from JustWatch through The Movie Database (TMDB); rentals and purchases are not the focus of the deck.

Catalogues change. A provider listing may be delayed, and opening a service still requires your own subscription. Confirm availability in the service before settling on a title.

Set your range and limits

The discovery dial runs from Safe to Uncharted, moving from familiar, widely watched choices toward less familiar titles. It is a browsing preference, not a prediction that you will like every title.

Genre and mood preferences help narrow the selection. Hard limits let you exclude horror or apply a US movie and TV rating ceiling. New-release preferences can narrow the time period. Controls and results depend on the app version and the information available for a title.

For the settings and the treatment of missing ratings, read the guide to changing services and hard limits.

Your choices organise the next step

Swipe right to save a title, left to pass, or up to add it to Tonight. Saved is your longer-term watchlist; Tonight is a short queue for the current evening. Flip a card to see its details and the reason shown for that pick.

Use Saved to keep promising options together and Tonight to make the final choice manageable. Your preferences help focus discovery; the final pick is yours.

What stays local and what is requested

Your taste settings, swipes, saved titles, and queue are stored on your device. Fetching title and availability data sends the relevant search or filter parameters and region to TMDB. Read the Flick: What to Watch Next privacy policy for the details.

App picks and editorial guides

The app’s discovery deck and this website’s Flick Guides serve different purposes. Monthly guides are dated editorial selections with their own sources and market scope; they are not a live mirror of your personal deck.

The official Flick: What to Watch Next App Store listing describes the available controls. Flick: What to Watch Next uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
