Family emergency-plan builder and printable template

By Tehmina Tajik

Last checked November 3, 2026

Work through this with the people who will use the plan. Make the meeting places specific, give each job a backup, and check the arrangements with schools, caregivers and anyone you hope to stay with.

Entries stay in this page. This website does not send or save your answers. Print or save a copy before leaving; keep completed plans somewhere private.

Try the plan before relying on it

Ask each person to explain the meeting place and contact plan in their own words. Check whether the designated driver can actually help, and whether the backup knows they have that role. Revisit the plan when contact details, school arrangements, health needs or household members change.

Keep a copy you can reach without a network

A plan stored only in a phone can be difficult to reach if that phone is flat or missing. Give the relevant people paper copies and agree where the household copy lives. Store completed copies privately: they may contain personal contact or health information.

How this resource was researched

The prompts combine Red Cross family planning guidance and Be Ready Utah communication planning with an original household responsibility worksheet. They do not assess your local hazards or replace official instructions.
